Thx for explaining this release feeling in more detail Russ. I now know i'm trying to hold the clubface too square after impact w excessive shaft lean and upper body too spin'y and upright causing low trajectory or cut shots. I will try this feeling of throwing the clubhead at the ball w/ a bit less grip pressure, and see if I can get that higher loft or nice ark back into my ball flight.

This might be a no-no, but I actually started feeling like my head goes back during the down swing. This stuff about the head going forward has been my driver fault for so long that I need to have that feel in order to stop sliding forward.

I am now doing it your way turn lift arms ,chest over ball ,and I to ,hit it thin ,goes alright but not shifting far enough towards target I presume but many thanks for the hard work you have done to get me playing better.

Mo Norman said 22 inches behind the ball to 22 inches past the ball. This guy says about 2 feet. Mo was very precise, that's why he was a better ball striker than this guy! But I would settle to be as good as this guy!!

I have been coaching for close to 18 years. This is probably the best advice one can give out in my ever so humble opinion. The problem is getting the student to listen, hear and then believe. Go to any range and virtually everyone is taking as long a backswing that they possibly can. . .and then trying to go a bit further. Great video! I will be using it to validate the concept.

Somehow, golf lessons always seem more “genuine and authoritative” when delivered by a guy who sounds like he could be talking to you from Troon or St Andrews

I've been looking at RH videos for some time now, but this one is a 100% game changer for me! I've been doing exactly what he illustrates many of us do. Took the lesson to the range first and then the course and it's as tough I've learned a whole new swing with the results to back it up! Thank you so very much for this!

I don't see a difference between the hips and the pelvis when I do the movement? Also, how does this work, as we are supposed to have a weight distribution of 60% on the left foot in the set-up and now we have to move the weight to the right foot? Confusing, please help...

We are told everywhere that lag, wrist set & release is where speed is generated. Even the guy I've taken lessons with stresses the need for wrist cock but I must agree it's easier to not use wrists. When watching DeChambeau, he doesn't seem to use wrists unless I'm just not seeing it. Using my wrists is causing me to hit fat shots too often because of not timing the release at the correct point which is accompanied with the down & forward move to start the downswing. I wish my ball striking were as easy as you make it appear!

I understand this move and it’s something that I try to implement as I get stuck on the way down, always have and become very flicky at the bottom but no matter how hard I try I can’t get it right!

Just watched another video on standing up from another source (provided upon request) that indicated to stop standing up not only do you need hip rotation in early part of downswing but also right side crunch in the downswing that has the beneficial effect of extending the left side enabling left shoulder retraction post impact. Idea is to have the sense of rotating the right side of the rib cage down into and toward the inside of the lead foot in the downswing at impact. This will definitely stop the standing up and keep a constant spine angle from address through impact. Hope this helps. It is more than just rotating hips in early part of downswing but also performing a right side crunch to avoid standing up.

What is new to me and not expressly stated but otherwise revealed in this excellent video is the truism that one can not retract the lead shoulder back and around post impact unless your hips have already rotated in advance of the upper body rotating down and around over the lead leg. That is the message for me.

I love Russell's stuff and he has a logjam of genuine. "...but comfortably so" was Homer Kelleys words. He also emphasized extensor action. This was just a remark. Russell is still great.

I feel like Scotty may have read the book Four Magic Moves by Joe Dante when he was a kid and ingrained it's concepts into his swing. The book details an early wrist set, then simply swing back with the shoulders then sliding the lower body toward the target on the downswing, very simple and can be blended into a more normal looking style.

I recently discovered a fascinating move, on my own! Something like this, If I have my elbows relaxed and nearly in a ‘chicken wing’ position at address, I then lock my lead arm (left elbow) which locks both arms in with no added tension to my grip either. Really works wonders and keeps my elbows together nicely throughout my swing. But to get it right I have to really relax my arms and bend them slightly then lock it in and it seems to really work a treat.

Playing in an hour in Phoenix, I will definitely try this

This drill will solve early extension ? From my indoor testing, it appears so.

I just now really noticed and understand what you mean about keeping your head still. It's more of the central point of your head, but in fact, your head does some tilting as well, and even more tilt at the point of impact.
